Introduction
The Refresh HR programme focuses on how to put HR theory into practice in the real world. The programme also takes you through how to deal effectively with the challenges you will encounter when working with senior leaders, managers and employees.
Course Description
Employment Legislation and Employment Agreements
You will cover the main points of the Employment Relations Act and break it down into the key things you need to know and how case law has been applied. You will then analyse an individual employment agreement and use it to cover what terms and conditions need to be included and how to effectively manage the employment relationship.
This is a practical workshop where you will learn what good faith means when dealing with the employment relationship, what needs to go into employment agreements and how to deal with contractors, casual and fixed term employees legally and fairly. It will also include direction regarding the key points of collective bargaining, and how to make flexible working, trial periods, meals breaks and breastfeeding provisions work in your organisation.
After the Christchurch earthquake, many businesses found themselves having to review their clauses around what employees were entitled to if the business couldn't operate, when can you ask an employee to work, leave entitlements and providing a healthy workplace. In this session of Refresh we will talk through the clauses that apply in these circumstances.
Who Should Attend
This programme is for anyone who wants to learn how to make HR work effectively in their workplace. This may be HR Coordinators, Advisors, Officers or Managers in the first few years of their HR career as well as students. Some of the workshops may also be useful for recruiters to attend. Learning and Development professionals who work as part of their company HR team have also found some of the employment law workshops useful.

Comments from Past Participants
"Really enjoyed the workshop. Enjoyed the participation and involvement from everyone! Great to have actual examples too. Postively presented workshop."
"The questions and answers really made you think. Also I enjoyed being in an environment where it felt safe to ask questions without looking silly."
"The workshop was really good. Very upbeat and interesting."
I attended the Refresh HR workshop in 2008 when I was new to my role as an HR Advisor (some may say thrown in the deep end). They were a great knowledge check; giving me the confidence in knowing that what I was doing was the right thing. It was also an opportunity to increase networks which allowed me to tap into other HR Professional's experience giving me more tools to deal with HR issues." Amanda Capping, HR Advisor, REPCO
